Using thread as line, Amanda McCavour has created a series of works in the new installation, line weight. The figures draw the viewer to follow their gaze to the thread which flows in and out of the forms. Each piece seems to be suspended by the line they are created by, and as you. The dramatic poses create a sense of discomfort especially when faced with the one figure whose gaze is directly focused on the viewer. Although this is McCavour’s first installation in small scale, the message remains as large as her previous works.
Amanda McCavour graduated from York University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Arts. She has participated in a number of solo and group exhibitions in Toronto, and is currently an artist in residence at the Harbourfront Centre’s Textile Studio.
